Award-Winning Research Coordinator at Slade & Baker Vision Center: PRESBYOPIA Study

Slade & Baker Vision Center’s very own Clinical Research Coordinator,  Chadisty M. Pauly has been honored as Clinical Research Coordinator of the Year by RVO for the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay Study!

RVO stands for Revision Optics, a company dedicated to helping find a cure for presbyopia.

About Presbyopia
If you need reading glasses, it may be because you have presbyopia – a naturally occurring loss of near vision that affects millions of people everyday. Like grey hair and wrinkles, presbyopia is considered a normal part of the aging process. The first symptoms usually occur between the ages of 40 – 50. However, the ability to focus on near objects declines throughout life, and generally levels off near the age of 60.
Presbyopia is believed to be caused by the gradual loss of elasticity, or flexibility, of the eye’s natural lens. As the lens loses its flexibility over time, the eye has a harder time focusing up close.
The onset of presbyopia is noticeable when you need to hold books, menus, and other fine print items at arm’s length in order to read them. As a result, people with presbyopia depend on reading glasses, contact lenses, or other solutions to help them see up close.

TREATMENT
The Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay is a microscopic hydrogel inlay that is designed to correct presbyopia.
Raindrop® is the first and only corneal inlay that creates a prolate-shaped cornea, and is easily placed under a femtosecond laser flap. The Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay is made of a proprietary hydrogel material comprised of nearly 80% water, ensuring effective nutrient diffusion and transfer through the cornea.
Fueled by a belief that no one should ever have to hold a menu out at arm’s length, RVO developed the Raindrop® Near Vision Corneal Inlay, a unique patented refractive surgery solution. This inlay is designed to improve the near vision that has been lost by the eye’s natural aging process, called presbyopia. The Company is actively pursuing regulatory approvals for Raindrop® worldwide, and is committed to ridding the world of reading glasses, one satisfied patient at a time which is why Slade & Baker Vision Center has joined forces and offered this study to their patients.

Slade & Baker Vision Center – Official Clinic Site

There are 10 clinic sites participating in this RVO study and there is an estimated 400 eyes treated. We at Slade & Baker Vision Center have treated over 30 patients at our site!  It is a 5-year study and consists of an average of 14 visits per patient. Unlike current Mono-Vision, this corneal inlay aims to provide near vision to patients without significant loss of their distance vision.

RVO continues to provide data to the FDA in hopes of approval. If approved, the Raindrop inlay will be another option for Presbyopic patients.
